Astigmatism is a curable problem that a lot of us suffer from. It’s an annoying issue that makes driving, nighttime hunting, and anything optics-related awkward to use. Speaking from experience, there aren’t a ton of red dot sight for astigmatism available for us.
The ones that are there, either they are priced way above than they should or just simply not worth consideration. But here we are, it took me a good while to put together this article but I’m so glad I did.
Let’s be real, we shouldn’t let astigmatism stop us from doing what we love. Without further ado, let’s start the show.
Best Astigmatism Red Dot Sights – [Editor’s Pick]
1. Vortex Optics AMG UH-1 Gen II Holographic Sight
The AMG UH-1 Gen 1 sight was widely appreciated by military and law enforcement shooters and the likes. While the Gen I was good, it wasn’t the best in most terms. To improve that base and add new features, Vortex made the Gen 2. Coming with a lot of necessary improvements.
The sight is still made out of high-quality aluminum. It’s durable, lightweight, and extremely compact. While I’m aware you are here for astigmatism red dot sight, this is a holographic sight. Hear me out, holographic sights can be used as an astigmatism sight as well. You can use riflescopes as well. But we are not here for scopes.
The holographic sight is water, fog, and shockproof. With the Gen 2, you get an even bigger viewing window. Offering you plenty of field of view to enjoy the sight before shooting. The battery compartment saw some changes as well. It’s now easier to remove the battery and replace it. You can now also use this sight during the night. Thanks to added night vision brightness settings.
The question is, how good of a sight is it for astigmatism? Will it increase the blur and aberration? No, it won’t. There is no artificial blur or parallax issue to increase your astigmatism problem. Even if you use glasses to counter your issue, you can use this sight with the glasses on. That’s right, the unlimited eye relief is such a lifesaver!
Does this work without night vision goggles?
This is the only nitpicking that I and many other reviewers had with this sight. There is night vision mode, that’s fine and dandy, but the night vision is useless unless you have a pair of night vision goggles on you. So, yeah.
Where is this manufactured?
The Hologram of the sight is not made in the USA. Rather, it’s manufactured in the UK and then imported in the USA. Then the Vortex facilities in the USA assemble the sight. You will also receive a warranty from the USA as well.
Does it feature shake to wake?
No, it doesn’t feature shake to wake. There is a switch that you can use to simply turn on or off the holograph. Holographic sights don’t even require shake to wake feature, to be honest. If you want to shake to wake, this isn’t it.
2. Trijicon RM06-C-700672 RMR Type 2 LED Sight
Sight’s so nice they made it twice! Ha-ha! Jokes aside, the RMR type 2 has all the great and latest features of the RMR series with slight improvements over the original one. Trijicon is known for its work for military enforcement and general consumers. They make their products to last any harsh environment you could come up with.
The RMR 2 is made out of aluminum with a small and compact housing. The housing is durable, rugged, and extremely light. You can use this sight with almost any weapon you can think of. Starting from a handgun to a bolt action rifle (why?), you can use it on all. On top of that, the build quality of this is so nice, that you can later transfer it to a new gun. Yeah, it may as well last that long.
The sight is incredibly clear and there is no chromatic aberration or color issues present on this. If you are anything like me and can’t handle the bright light fractions thanks to astigmatism, then you will appreciate a sight like this that eliminates any kind of glare coming to your eyes.
Depending on the gun you are pairing this sight with, you will have an incredible setup for not a lot of money. Yes, for a red dot sight the RMR type 2 is not cheap. But it’s well worth it. There isn’t much more to ask from a red dot. It delivered on everything it promised.
Is this illuminated?
Yes, the red dot reticle of this is completely illuminated. There is an automatic brightness mode and 11 levels of adjustable brightness settings. Among those 11 levels, there are two nighttime settings and one super bright light setting.
What improved in type 2?
The most noticeable improvement in the type 2 is the battery department. Before, the battery hasn’t tugged this snugly and safely. There were some complaints of water reaching the battery. All of those are fixed in this, the battery contact is better and so is the battery life.
Is this sight really that durable?
Any doubts? Military-grade aluminum and tested in a military-grade environment. It passed any kind of torture test you could think of. The sight and the lens on it are extremely durable. It will last you for a good while. It’s one of the best pistol red dots for astigmatism.
3. Aimpoint PRO Red Dot Reflex Sight w/QRP2 Mount
Some consider Aimpoint Pro as the best red dot sight ever made. While some consider it overpriced. Where do I fall in? I’m in the middle. I like this sight and it’s well worth the money. It’s not overpriced, nor it’s the best sight ever made. It’s a good sight that is often misunderstood.
The Pro is made out of aluminum. A durable material suited for a durable sight. You can feel how durable it is from the touch. The Pro is lightweight as well. Honestly, a sight this big might look like it weighs a ton. It doesn’t. It can be used for lighter guns such as SMGs as well. The internal of the sight is also purged with nitrogen. Making it immune to moisture and fog.
The sight is water and shockproof as well. Thanks to that, you can use this sight on any gun you can think of. While it’s a bit too big for pistols, it can be used on hybrid handguns and SMGs as well. The lenses of PRO are fully multi-coated. It eliminates any kind of glaring, blur, and discoloration on a glass. You will see accurate and vibrant scenarios throughout your usage.
Even with astigmatism, the Pro never ceased to amaze users. You will come to appreciate just how much improvement a sight like this has over regular red dots. Do keep in mind the pairing. You want to use this on relatively big enough guns so the weight balance is nice.
Does this optic come with a mount?
Yes, the mount on this is built in. There is a spacer included in the package as well. It’s an absolute co-witness with iron sights. You don’t need to use any kind of risers either. It’s fine as it is.
Is the reticle illuminated?
Yes, it’s completely illuminated. You can adjust the brightness of the reticle as well. There is a total of 10 adjustable levels present in the Pro. One of them is extra bright to use under direct sunlight. As there is no glaring issue and it’s an astigmatism red dot sight, you will find the extra brightness setting very useful.
Is Aimpoint Pro worth the money?
If you read the review, you know the answer to that question very well. It’s well worth the money. You are getting more than what you paid for. A premium price tag for a premium sight that will serve you for a long time. That’s a good deal in my book.
4. Meprolight Self-Powered Reflex Sight
Meprolight is not a new name to shooters. Their reflex sights are well known among law enforcers and range-shooters. Among those sights, there is one that stands out the most. That one is a self-powered reflex sight made for guns of all sizes and shapes.
The Meprolight red dot comes in an aluminum shell. The shell is well-built, rugged, and lightweight. There is no visible anodization error present on the sight either. Meprolight made sure it was water, fog, and shockproof. All of those are necessary for a sight to be used with AR and service rifles. While it’s not made for hunters, you can use this to hunt on a short range. Nothing drastic.
The lens of the Meprolight is fully multi-coated. It’s a single-piece lens that is well-secured in the waterproof housing. The reticle is glass etched, it won’t move around from shooting or dropping the sight accidentally. There is no blur or glare visible on the sight either. Giving you the freedom to use it on any lighting condition.
For someone with astigmatism, this sight will come in super handy. It eliminates any unwanted glare and increases your focus on the dot. As the dot is not too big or over the top, it just gives enough vision to see the target and focus on the dot itself. That will help folks with astigmatism.
Is the reticle illuminated?
Yes, the reticle is illuminated. However, the reticle is not illuminated traditionally. Instead, Meprolight uses the same fiber optic tritium that they use in their night sights. Those things work without battery and ensure illumination for a long time.
Can you use magnifier on this sight?
You can. Meprolight also makes magnifiers to sell separately. You won’t get it in this package but you can buy a magnifier to increase the working range of this sight. While it will shrink the field of view, to some it’s worth it.
Where is this made in?
Meprolight is an Israeli brand. All of their products are made for military use and their products are tested by the Israeli military as well.
5. EOTECH 512 Holographic Weapon Sight
Holographic sights are by no means behind a red dot or worse than them. It’s about preference. You might enjoy holographs more than red dots. There is nothing wrong with that. Keeping that in mind, I must suggest to you the best holographic sight for astigmatism as well. While you will find plenty of red dots for astigmatism, good holographic is rare.
Eotech 512 is made out of aluminum. It’s a durable sight that was made with service weapons in mind. Service weapons go through a lot and it often gets into accidents. Keeping that in mind, the shell of the 512 is just simply amazing. There is no visible error. The sight is water, fog, and shockproof as well. Keeping the tradition of all-weather use alive.
The lens used here is made out of glass. Glass is better for a lens than plastic or tempered glass. The hologram is visible directly on the glass. It won’t move away from recoil or accidentally dropping the gun anywhere. The lens is fully multi-coated as well. It’s extremely bright and vivid. There are no glaring issues caused by sunlight either.
Even with astigmatism, the Eotech is completely useable and a great option. Thanks to the fully multi-coated lens, the sight mitigates all blur and light-related issues. You can use this sight under direct sunlight as well.
Is this sight compatible with night vision?
Sadly, it’s not compatible with night vision. Many holographic sights aren’t compatible with night vision. A reticle that big is bit hard to use during the night. Thus, not a lot of companies bothered regarding this subject.
Is it illuminated?
Yes, the reticle is illuminated. It gives you the option to choose from 20 levels of adjustments. That’s right 20! That’s a lot for a small sight like this. You can use it from early morning to late evening. But not during the night.
What kind of battery does this use?
It uses two AAA lithium batteries to operate. As the reticle is huge and it requires quite a bit of power to reach the 20th level, Eotech is using AAA batteries here instead of CR2032.
6. HOLOSUN – HS510C Reflex Red Dot Sight
If you are an avid reader of TargetChaser, you know by now just how many times Holosun has been featured here. Holosun is one of the modern maestros of red dots. While the country of origin is still China, this sight has taken the West by surprise.
This is incredibly well-built with a unique look. While it may look a bit bulky and holographic’ish. It’s a red dot through and through. The housing is made out of aluminum. Giving it a rugged look overall. There is no visible error present either. The weight and weight distribution are quite nice. Even if you use this on a lighter gun, you won’t face any issues.
The lens of the HS510C is made out of durable and high-quality glass. The glass lens is fully multi-coated for better light transmission. It also removes the unwanted glare and other hindrance from the sight. Making it a good option for folks with astigmatism. What’s even better about this sight is the field of view. It’s quite impressive how wide and clear it is. A looker!
Is this sight illuminated?
Yes, it’s completely illuminated. You can adjust the brightness of the sight. On top of that, if the battery somehow dies on you while hunting, you can continue using the sight. It has a solar failsafe system that stores solar energy and reuses it as electricity when needed.
Does this feature shake to wake?
It does. It’s a very neat feature as well. You don’t need to worry about turning it off either. It automatically turns off after detecting too much idle time. Besides the automatic turn-on function, the sight also features automatic brightness adjustments.
Is this optic good for hunting?
It’s excellent for hunting. If you are a short-range hunter, you will love this. The effective work range of this sight isn’t too big, but where it works, it works.
7. Sig Sauer SOR52001 Romeo5 Compact Red Dot Sight
Not all Romeo needs their Juliet. This Romeo from Sig Sauer is a red dot that doesn’t need the help of an NVD or magnifier to reach its true potential. Unlike many other HWS and red dots, Romeo 5 alone is enough to satisfy all of your needs.
Sig used high-quality aluminum to make the Romeo. It’s durable, rugged, and looks good. While the finish in the pictures may look a lot like steel, it’s far stronger than steel. As the sight is foggy and waterproof, there is no chance of catching rust either. The entire housing of the Romeo is shockproof as well. Giving you the freedom of pairing this with a powerful gun.
The lenses of the Romeo 5 are made out of high-quality and crystal-clear glass. To improve that glass even further, Sig used multiple layers of chemical coatings. That eliminates all the glare coming from sunlight. It also increases the light transmission capability of the Romeo 5. The field of view of the sight is awesome as well.
As there is no glaring issue and blur or parallax issue present on the Romeo 5, you can use this as an astigmatism patient. If you use glasses to cope with astigmatism, you can use this sight while wearing those glasses as well.
Is Romeo 5 illuminated?
Yes, it’s illuminated. The 2 MOA red dot offers a total of 10 illumination settings. Among those 10 settings, 2 are reserved for night vision and 8 are for day lights. The brightest configuration is suitable to use directly under sunlight.
Does it feature MOTAC?
Yes, Romeo 5 offers motion-activated illumination aka MOTAC. When the sensor in the gun detects a bit of movement, the sight illuminates on its own. It also turns off when you are not using it for a while. The battery life is expected to be 40k hours.
Does it include mount?
There is a built-in mounting mechanism available on the sight directly. Alongside, you will see a co-witness 1.41” riser mount as well.
How To Choose The Best Sight For Astigmatism?

Lens
We all know lenses can tame or even cure astigmatism. If the lens of the red dot is fully multi-coated and has no glaring issue and no light leakage issue, then this sight is good for astigmatism sufferers.
Green vs Red Dot Astigmatism
Some think green is better than red dot for astigmatism. When that’s not the truth. Both of these reticles can cause issues for patients if the lens is poorly made. If the lens has no glaring and color issues, either of the reticle is fine.
Build Quality
The standard argument. If the sight is not durable, how will it protect the valuable core? Plastic sights can be good as well. But metal sights are most of the time better built.
