  1. Brent, many thanks, jut got my KSG and now want to dress it up. i have everything but the magnifier and muzzle break. thinking of getting the High Tech Customs howitzer muzzle break, do you know of a better one? still cant decide on the magnifier. this review is helpful and i will use it when i start more research. i have a cvlive green dot with a high nd low mount. it is a “shake awake’ so it will help the batt. life. i am 83 so i need to reduce the recoil as much as possible. keep on helping us guys with your reviews. PHIL

    1. Hi, Phill,

Glad to know you found my article informative. Knowing you just got a KSG, my congratulations are upon you.

Coming to your questions, I know it can be troublesome to figure out the right muzzle brake. Due to the aggressive marketing of most companies, it’s hard to find the one that fits your shooting style the best. I see you already found out about the Custom Howitzer 70.

The Howitzer 70 is an excellent muzzle brake and will reduce your felt recoil by a lot. It will also work as a recoil compensator. Resulting in making you feel like you are firing a lighter weapon. You could also take a look at the V6 by KSG themselves. They do claim it has a “better” performance. But you will find people’s opinions tend to differ between the two.

As for the magnifier, I recommend you take a look at the 3x offering from Aimpoint. Their magnifiers tend to play well with other brand’s optics. As the Aimpoint 3xc is also relatively lightweight compared to other similarly priced magnifiers, I think it will help you better control the weapon and won’t have a harsh recoil. It also comes with a flip-up mounting system.

So, you can easily choose to use or not use the magnifier. If you do end up going for a magnifier, try to get accustomed to the high-mounting system. Magnifiers tend to have a taller mounting mechanism. To get a good line of sight, you may need to go for an after-market mounting bracket.
