MP5 is a famous submachine gun that was invented in the 1960’s. Since then, it has gone through several redesigns and upgrades. MP5 is a close combat gun that has a pretty high fire rate.
You are not supposed to use a long-range scope on an MP5. Red dots are the prime contenders to sit on top of an MP5. As they possess incredible clarity and a lightweight body, they are an easy choice.
If you are looking for the best red dot for MP5, you have ventured to the right place. Welcome aboard and let’s start this!
Things To Consider Before Purchasing An MP5 Sight
MP5 is not a rifle nor a sniper rifle. It’s a submachine gun with a pretty high fire rate. You need to buy sights/optics that have low magnification to pair up with the gun. Here are some pointers to help you regarding that decision.
Glass quality. As there is no magnification, you don’t need to worry about that. If the glass is good and it was treated well with coatings, then you have nothing to worry about.
Build quality. MP5 doesn’t have that much recoil. It’s quite easy to understand the pattern and master it. It’s not enough to break an aluminum scope by any means. It’s still a good idea to take a good scope that is capable of taking a rough beating.
Warranty is quite important for optics. It’s a small and delicate object. You don’t want anything to happen to it. Nor do you want to destroy it further while attempting to fix it. If the optic is under good warranty, then you will get either a replacement or a fixed scope.
Our Top 7 Optics for MP5
1. Sig Sauer Romeo5 1x20mm Compact Red Dot
I don’t know where the Juliet is, but we got the Romeo here. Sig Sauer is a well-known red dot sight manufacturer. The one we have here is a 1x optic with a 20mm objective lens. It’s far better than MP5 Iron Sight and is on par/better than most ACOG. It’s a well-built red dot sight with neat features.
Illuminated Reticle
There are a total of 10 levels of brightness adjustments for the reticle. Even in bright sun or in a low-light condition, Romeo5 has you covered. One might say, it’s a sick optic (ba dum tss).
MOTAC
MOTAC stands for motion-activated illumination. It’s a sensor that can sense the movement of the sight. If the red dot is sitting idly without moving, the reticle will automatically turn off its illumination. When you pick up the gun and start moving, the reticle will shine again.
Risers Included
It’s a small sight with low-profile mounts. To make it sit higher you will need some riser. Thankfully, you don’t need to buy risers separately.
- -MOTAC (Motion Activated Illumination) powers up when it senses motion and powers down when it does not. Provides for optimum operational safety and enhanced 40,000+ hour battery life
The Bad Stuff
There had been some QC issues in one of the batches of Romeo5. Which Sig claims they fixed already. But if you get your unit from the QC batch, then you might find the reticle a bit weird and in a fixed position.
2. Vortex Razor Red Dot Sight
Vortex Razor red dot sight is a sight to behold. It looks super cool and packs a lot of features in a small package. Some of the features will come in super handy while shooting.
Build Quality
It’s not a scope yet Vortex didn’t fail to deliver a well-built sight. It’s made from aluminum. As the gun will shake a bit, the rail of this mounting system is quite tight. That won’t move the reticle of the sight around.
The Optics
The sight comes with a 3 MOA or 6 MOA red dot reticle. The lens is fully multi-coated. There is no prism so there is no nitrogen purging involved. It’s still a shock and waterproof construction.
Picatinny Rail Mount Included
The main mounting system for the Razer red dot is the Picatinny rail. You can adjust it to sit higher as well.
Adjustable
There is a lock that prevents the windage and elevation from being changed freely. Once you open the lock, you can then use the same lever to change the windage and elevation of the sight.
What We Din’t Liked
The additional mounting system could have had a bit tighter tolerance. While on a gun like MP5, it won’t be that big of a deal, but a higher caliber gun might give this optic a run for its money.
3. Holusun HS403C LED Red Dot Sight
HOLUSUN HS403C is a dual-powered red dot sight. HOLUSUN is not a new name in the red dot industry. Their sights always have some neat features that attract customers.
Huge Battery Life
The red dot reticle on this is illuminated. Like every other sight, you need a battery to illuminate the sight. HS403C uses a single cr2032 battery. It can power the sight for up to 50k hours.
Waterproof
The optic is rated as IP67 waterproof. You can submerge the sight to some degree without breaking it. You shouldn’t do it, but if you are curious like me, you can do it.
Build Quality
It is made out of 6061 T6 aluminum with a surface finish called MAO. Possessing an incredible shock-resistant structure, this thing will chew MP5 for breakfast!
- HOLOSUN RED DOT SIGHT - HS403C is a solar and battery powered 20mm micro sight designed for rifle and carbine applications; This rifle sight features Holosun's Red Super LED with 50k hour battery life and 12 reticle intensity settings; Its housing is made...
The Cons!
The illumination could have been brighter. At max brightness, you will have a bit of trouble under direct sun. Otherwise, you won’t face any issues.

4. Aimpoint Micro T-2 Red Dot Reflex Sight
Aimpoint Micro T-2 is a red dot sight that mounts onto the rifle. Aimpoints also have sights that mount on top of their own scopes. That can be a bit annoying. Not everyone owns one of those scopes.
Good Thing
Aimpoint Micro T-2 is a reflex sight. You don’t need to keep your eyes closed while using this sight. The gun we are talking about is the MP5. That supports a Picatinny rail as well.
Build Quality
It’s not made out of aluminum and is quite durable. There are lots of positive reviews about this sight as well. You can find them almost anywhere.
Huge Battery Life
Up to 5 years of usage from a single battery! It’s quite an absurd claim. While we don’t have the time to test it for 5 years and then let you guys know, I trust them on this claim. All of the Aimpoint sights that I have seen so far, had great battery backups.
- Includes front and rear plastic flip cap lens covers and reinforced windage and elevation turrets
The Worries!
The included lens cover is quite thin. So, think that it feels like it will break any moment now. The question is “Is that something to worry about?”
5. HOLOSUN HE507C-GR X2 Green Circle Dot Failsafe
In a sense, it’s like the smaller alternative of the HS403C. This one is also a dual-powered red dot sight made for pistol carbines mostly. But thanks to its incredible structure, it wiggled its way into rifle and SMG scene!
Why The Holosun HE507C?
HOLOSUN HE507C was mainly made for pistol-type weapons. MP5 is not far off from there. It’s a reflex sight where you don’t need to bring your eyes close to the optic use it. You don’t need to close one eye for a better sight either. This sight combined with MP5 will be a great duo.
Illuminated Reticle
The reticle here is green and it’s illuminated. The reticle is in MOA. You can change the MOA reading by moving the latch on the side of the sight. Adjusting them needs some time to get used to. But they are not hard to read or understand.
Solar Failsafe
This optic has a neat feature. When you are under the bright sun, the reticle will shine brightly. It will help you to aim better in the sun as well. When you are indoors and have a low-light environment, the reticle will dim down to save battery.
- SHAKE AWAKE TECHNOLOGY - Extends battery life by deactivating the optic's LED while not in use; Shake Awake offers settings from 10 minutes to 12 hours depending on the model and can be deactivated altogether if preferred; The slightest touch of the optic...
Bad Thing
The lens is a fingerprint magnet. Despite having coatings on the glass, it still picks up quite a bit of fingerprints. Always carry a microfiber cloth alongside to clean it.
6. Trijicon RMR Type 2 6.5 MOA LED Red Dot Sight
Trijicon RMR is one most popular Red dot sights in America. There is also a running debate going on in the community. Trijicon RMR vs Aimpoint Pro. We all know Aimpoint Sights makes pretty good red dots. How about Trijicon?
Why is Trijicon RMR
Trijicon is a budget brand that also has lots of cheap riflescopes. If anything, their experience from riflescope carried over to this.
Build Quality
This sight is constructed from aluminum. A durable material that won’t rust at all as well. This optic is also waterproof. As there is no prism, you don’t need to worry about fogging either. Granted fogging on the lens will be an issue in cold weather. But it’s not severe.
Optics Quality
They are fully multi-coated optics with great vision clarity. There is no glare on the sight either. Enjoyed that part quite a bit. It’s one of the best red dots for MP5.
- If a manual mode has been chosen, the RMR will remain in manual mode for 16.5 hours following the last push of a button
The Cons!
The automatic brightness setting works. But you could interfere with that artificially. That can be a bit tricky to deal with at times.
7. Aimpoint CompM5 Red Dot Reflex Sight
Aimpoint CompM5 is a great red dot sight from Aimpoint. Aimpoint Pro is known for its lens and bullseye-hitting capabilities. Nothing changed here either.
Build Quality
The build quality is insanely good on this one. It doesn’t look that durable. But we know, that looks can be often deceiving. That’s true here as well. The only thing you will find weird about this is the lack of a mounting system. But when you think about it, is that a con? You could buy the mounting system from a third party or get an LRP mount with spacers.
Lens Quality
It’s a sight with a red dot reticle. It doesn’t use a prism to enhance the vision or brightness of the sight. Instead, it uses a fully multi-coated lens to show vibrant and saturated vision. The reticle here is illuminated, making sure you don’t miss a shot under bright sunlight.
Huge Battery Life
The battery life on this is insane. It can last up to 50k hours. It’s not something that you see on every sight. You can choose from 6 daylight settings. Depending on the setting, the battery life will drop or increase.
- Matches perfectly with Aimpoint optics
Remember That!
I would have preferred if the sight were to come with a mount included, but it doesn’t. I’m aware you could potentially buy that with a standard mounting system, but that’s hardly a better bargain!
Best Scope Mount For MP5
MP5 by default has a Picatinny rail that supports a lot of sights. But HK MP5 scope mounts are quite necessary for some specific sights that don’t support our beloved MP5. Here are some mount to cure that solution.
1. GOTICAL Weaver Style Mount
This weaver-style mount is constructed from metal and has a matte black finish to it. The aluminum here is the same stuff that they use in aircraft. It’s durable and has a black anodization finish on it. It adds an upper rail to M5 and HK-style guns.
- Metal Construction Matte Black
2. Scope Rail Mount For MP5
As I said earlier, MP5 doesn’t support scope and isn’t necessary for it. But what if you still want to do that? That’s where this rail comes in. It makes the MP5 rail support a full regular-sized scope. Instead of a red dot, you could enjoy some scope at times.
- Metal Construction
3. Hygoo Tactical Low-Profile Rain Mount
The previous two mounts had increased height on them. This one is a low-profile mount that sits directly flush onto the rifle itself. It will allow you to use red dots sights and much more. You could try canted sights at the time as well.
- Use this cantilever mount for mounting 1-inch telescopic sights
Frequently ASKED Questions
Is Optics For MP5 Worth It?
The iron sight on MP5 is not good at all. When you want to practice and don’t have a gun, it will create issues. If you want to get good at it, a sight is a must for MP5.
Is An MP5 With Scope Better Than an MP5 With Sight?
The scope has adjustable magnification most of the time. But the sights are either red dots or ACOG. They don’t have adjustable magnification. If you want the magnification, then the obvious choice is to go for the one you are looking at.
Meet The End
MP5 is a submachinegun that is mainly aimed toward short-range combat specialists and tactical shooters. It’s not that good for hunting or hunting-related activities.
