Ravin r10 Review: A Premium Crossbow In A Moderate Budget!

Ravin r10 is a premium crossbow with top-end features and looks. This is not a budget crossbow by any means. You will be paying a premium price for premium features. I just wanted to make that clear.

Ravin R10: Outlooks

Ravin R10

Specifications | Speed: 400 FPS; Kinetic Energy: 142 ft.lbs; Power Stroke: 11 Inches; Draw Effort: 12 LBS; Axle To Axle: 6 / 10.5 Inches; Length: 33 Inches; Weight: 6.8 LBS.

The crossbow has a revolutionary design for new-gen crossbows. The Ravin r10 use reverse draw limb technology. The crossbow feels like a rifle while using.

Build Quality

The whole crossbow weight is 6.8 pounds. Roughly 3 kilograms. The axle to axle width is 6.5″ when cocked. When it comes to speed 400 FPS is quite unbeatable.

What makes the crossbow more wise decision is the compactness of it. Anyone would be more than willing to carry it because of the size and the weight.

The frame is made out of carbon fiber. I was expecting a high quality build carbon fiber was the cherry on the top. You guys might already know how pricey carbon fiber is.

Carbon fiber makes the frame more durable while still being on the lightweight side. The durability of the crossbow shouldn’t even be concerned. Simply put top-notch build quality.

Velocity

The R10 has an unequal velocity with an axle to axle just only 6.5″ when cocked. The speed of the crossbow is 400 feet per second (FPS). With a 400 grains bolt the crossbow packs a mean punch of 142-lbs kinetic energy.

Rest assured the bolt going to hit the target hard.

Helicoil Technology

This new Helicoil technology has an impact on downtime accuracy and axle to axle width. It coils the cables away from both cams in the helical grooves that keep the cams balanced.

These grooves are known for keeping downtime accuracy while keeping the cams in balance. It also allows the cams to rotate at 340 degrees while drawing and shooting.

Frictionless Flight System

This mechanism helps to eliminate friction by allowing the string and arrow to free float over the rail. This advanced technology helps for consistent accuracy and improves the wire life.

As the cable is left free hanging without any friction the wire doesn’t dissolve quicker. Ultimately increasing the longevity of the wire.

Trac Firing System

The inbuild trigger mechanism is called Trac firing system. What it does is, it slides forward on the rail and clasps the precise center of the bowstring. And it happens every time the crossbow is drawn.

Safety

The crossbow is really expensive no doubt about that. Obviously, it has some safety precautions. It was made in such a way that it is easy to operate even with gloved hands.

There is an extended safety wings over the grip that prevents your finger from the flight deck.

The trac firing system is made in such a manner that retract the string in a repeatable manner. The crossbow also features an auto safety with anti-dry fire.

Assembly

There is nothing to assemble. Seriously the crossbow comes fully assembled. You just can tune the setting to your wish and start shooting.

You can always read the included guide to assemble yourself if you want to.

Accessories

The R10 crossbow comes with lots of accessories. Here is the list of what you can expect inside the packaging.

  • The 100 yards illuminated scope
  • Six 400 grain bolts
  • Six 100 grain practice field points
  • Versa-Draw cocking handle
  • Built-in Sling Mounts

Scope

Like we mentioned earlier the Riven R10 comes with a 100 yards crossbow scope out of the box. The scope is illuminated, which is a good thing. Out of the box, you don’t need to adjust anything about the scope. The scope packs some interesting features, down below we will be mentioning them.

  • The scope supports variable speed. That means the scope can keep up with the crossbow easily. The scope has a speed variable from 300 to 425 FPS.
  • The scope has 9 dots. All of them are calibrated for 20 to 100 yards. The field of view is pretty wide. To make your calibration process easy the scope supports a variable magnification from 1.5x to 5x.
  • The scope has windage and elevation knobs.
  • The scope has rheostat controlled illuminated colored dots in the reticle. The colors are red or green.
  • The scope comes with free flip-up protective lens covers.
  • The scope is weatherproof, fog proof, and shockproof.
  • The reticle is glass etched. The objective lens is 32mm.

Bolts And Quiver

The crossbow comes with 20-inch arrows. They are specially made for Ravin crossbows. The bolts are also made out of carbon fiber making them light and more aerodynamic.

The bolt features brass threaded inserts and polymer nocks.

The Ravin R10 comes with a quick detach quiver. It allows you to bring arrows safely. The quick detach quiver is a blessing in the tree stand hunting session.

Foregrip

The R10 features a pistol grip, with a finger groove. The texture is well balanced. It feels safe to use. The foregrip leaves with a satisfaction that it’s safe and well balanced.

Versa Draw Cocking System

The cocking mechanism of R10 is called versa draw cocking mechanism. It works in a conjunction with the trac trigger system. Ultimately creating a crossbow that has an easy cocking mechanism with minimal 12 pounds of cocking force.

Pros

  • Compact and lightweight.
  • High kinetic energy.
  • Available in 2 colors camo or black.
  • Cocking draw 12 pounds.
  • High-speed shooting capability.
  • Gives feeling like rifle while using it.
  • Versa draw cocking mechanism is removable.
  • It comes with a high quality 100 yards scope.

Cons

  • Expensive.
  • The removal cocking pit feels clumsy sometimes.

Ravin R10 Crossbow Review Summary

The crossbow is one of if not the best one in the line. It was chosen as the best crossbow in 2019 by the outdoor life. If you have the money to spend you won’t regret it a bit. It is worth it. That comes with a cost. Premium stuff premium price. But it is well worth the price.
