Barnett Droptine STR Review: A Barnett Budget Crossbow!

Barnett Droptine STR sounds a lot like dopamine. Dopamine is the chemical responsible for feeling pleasure. Can Barnett Droptine STR make you feel pleasure? I believe so. You will find out why that is in this Barnett Droptine STR crossbow review.

Barnett makes some of the best budget crossbows on the market. A market that is full of competition. What makes the Droptine stand out from the rest? All you have to do is keep reading.

Barnett Droptine STR: Outlooks

Barnett Droptine STR 380

Specifications | Speed: 380 FPS; Kinetic Energy: 125 ft.lbs; Power Stroke: 15.44 Inches; Draw Weight: 185 LBS; Axle To Axle: 18.125 Inches; Trigger Type: TriggerTech; Weight: 6.9 LBS

Build Quality

Barnett Droptine is constructed with compact and portability in mind. The length of the Droptine is 36″. It can easily be anywhere you like. The width of this crossbow is 20″. All of the limbs are made out of CNC aluminum. They are strong and durable. The cam system of the crossbow is also built quite well.

For a budget crossbow, Barnett gave their all behind this. You can see this in the design and the build. Both of them are quite good. Barnett is also confident about that. That’s why Barnett provides a ten-year warranty with the Droptine.

The stock of Droptine is adjustable. You can change it to make it more comfortable. The adjustable stock also opens the opportunity for beginners, children, and women to use the crossbow. You don’t need to buy a short crossbow if you can adjust the buttstock.

Power

Barnett Droptine can pull 125 ft-lbs of kinetic energy. That energy is capable of putting any deer to sleep. Let’s not forget how compact the crossbow is. When cocked, the crossbow width is mere 18.125 inches. As this crossbow features TriggerTech (more on that later) and anti-dry fire, you can easily carry it as loaded.

Draw Weight

The draw weight is the next hot topic here. The draw weight can scare the buyer away or lure them into the trap. Here Barnett went for the first one. 185 lbs of draw weight is enough to scare away any beginner hunters.

If you are a beginner and thinking of clicking away from the tab, hold up. Let me convince you. You can drop the weight of Droptine by half using a rope cocking device. Okay, I admit that was a terrible pun, but you did laugh. When we cut the draw weight by half, this crossbow becomes more and more appealing.

Speed

Droptine has earned the right to call itself the speed. This tiny little crossbow is capable of firing the bolts at an incredible 380 FPS speed. Just a tad shy of the 400 FPS mark. 380 FPS is not a joke by any means. Not when you are paying 1/3rd of the price of a premium crossbow.

A premium crossbow that doesn’t even reach 380 FPS. With 125 ft-lbs of kinetic energy and 380 FPS of speed, Droptine is big-game ready. It packs enough punch to lay down the manliest bear.

Accuracy

We know how powerful Droptine is. All of that won’t make a slight difference if the crossbow is not accurate. I am glad that’s not the case here. It’s one of the most accurate crossbows at this price point.

You can’t nail three bolts on top of each other. You surely can hit three bullseyes in a row. Of course, it will highly depend on the environment you are in and how strong the wind is.

Noise

Unfortunately, there aren’t any noise dampeners present in the crossbow. Features like the Soft-Lok floating-bristle arrow retainer and the TriggerTech reduce the noise by a lot.

But Droptine still lacks any official noise-dampening support. It’s not loud, and the rail lube is well done. I still recommend some third-party string dampeners. It will reduce vibration by a lot.

TriggerTech Trigger

TriggerTech is a unique frictionless trigger mechanism that is mostly present in higher-end crossbows. It surprised me a lot when I saw TriggerTech on this crossbow. TriggerTech increases the string life by a lot and reduces the trigger creep. TriggerTech alone is enough reason for you to buy the Barnett Droptine STR.

  • TriggerTech Trigger.
  • Frictionless rail.
  • Comes assembled.
  • Lightweight & Powerful.
  • Strong stock.

  • No noise dampener.
