Going back to the Vortex Strike Eagle feels a little bit nostalgic. If you are a long-time follower you know by now that it was our first product review. We tried to explain everything about the riflescope in that article. I believe I did a fair job.
But I am not here today to review the Vortex Strike Eagle again. I am here to explain to you the difference between vortex strike eagle 1-8 vs 1-6. I hope that you will be able to decide on your purchase by reading this.

For Accuracy (Reticle)
As much as I like the AR-BDC reticle on the 1-6x, the AR-BDC2 reticle on the 1-8x is better and more accurate. Don’t get me wrong the 1-6x is still accurate enough. But the reticle itself is a bit small for my taste. I am sure a lot of you will also agree with me on this.
As they are on the second focal plane if the reticle is not big enough it feels awkward. The eye relief and the viewing lens are the same on both. But yet if you look at both of these side by side you can see the difference.
Ergonomics
IN TERMS OF HANDLING, there is no difference between the two. The size of the 1-6x is 10.5 inches whereas the 1-8x is 10 inches. There is an inch difference. That half-inch also makes a difference in the weight. the 1-8x is 0.9oz lighter than the 1-6x.
But when you use the scopes on top of the scope and maneuver them around, you won’t feel the weight or size difference as they are identically the same scope with different specs.
The 1-8x is superb for long-distance shooting and it shows its real potential after the 100-yard mark. If you are taking one of them for 100-300 yards range shooting or hunting my recommendation is the 1-8x version.

Field Of View
Another important factor of a riflescope is its field of view. Usually, the field of view of a riflescope is lower compared to spotting scopes. The simple reason is spotting scope uses prisms inside.
The funny thing is both of these scopes have the exact amount of field of view at 100 yards. If the field of view is a deal-breaker for you, then you don’t need to worry. You can get either of them.
Price
The 1-6x is cheaper than the 1-8x. If the budget plays a big role (which it should) then the best possible option for you is the 1-6x.
Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 vs 1-6: Overall
ON THE SURFACE, both of them are the same scope. The build quality is good for both of them. The optics are clear and vivid. The field of view is large and the same. The eye relief is also generous and the same.
You can’t go wrong with either of them.
Both of them are some of the best budget riflescopes on the market. But Vortex now makes other budget riflescopes too. But Strike eagle has been known in the community for a long time. A simple Google search will show you millions of links about the scope.
Conclusion
If you want to know about the scope, you should read our review. Granted it was a long time ago but those points are still valid.
BUT IF YOU WANT US TO RECOMMEND ONE, we highly recommend the 1-8x version. Let’s be real the price difference is not that much. Higher magnification is always appreciated. Why not spend the extra bucks for the higher magnification?
