It’s been a while since we wrote something about Leupold. Well, Leupold fans don’t worry; today we got the Leupold VX freedom rimfire 3-9×40 review for you guys. So without further ado let’s jump straight into the review.

Now on paper, the scope looks great, doesn’t it? We are hoping it also performs great too. Cause the price you are paying for the scope is not that much compared to top-of-the-line scopes.
Lens Coating System
The lens coating system of the VX-Freedom in Leupold’s words is called Twilight Light Management System. Wow, now that’s a mouthful. What’s so special about the coating system you may ask.
Combined with the physical attribute of the scope the coating system is supposed to help transmit the maximum amount of light.
Due to this feature, the scope is supposed to particularly shine in low light and color-vibrant scenarios. As you are supposed to see more accurate colors. Well, we gotta hand it to Leupold for sticking true to their words.
To summarize the lenses are great for what you are paying.
Build Quality
Is it? Yes, it is. The scope is made of 6061-T6 aluminum. Which is super lightweight. The scope weighs around 346 grams or around 13 oz. You will barely notice you have something on your rifle
The build quality is solid, as far as we saw the scope is capable of taking some quite recoil hits and is suitable for various kinds of weather. The usage depends on you but no matter what you buy the scope for it is definitely going to serve you well.
Zoom
You heard that right. You can’t compromise on the zoom and objective lens when it comes down to long-range scopes. Leupold VX-Freedom has a default zoom of 3x which you can crank up to 9x.
The objective lens of the scope is 40mm like Leupold VX-R patrol; which is more than enough for a 9-power scope if you ask me. The zoom ring didn’t feel like cheap or wack. overall with little to no distortion, while zooming the experience was just fine.
Reticle
I don’t know about others but you guys know by now I have been focusing on reticle quite a bit. Well, I did provide my logic for why I put importance on the reticle.
Cause it is important alright, you can’t hope to just automatically out of nowhere adjust with an unfamiliar reticle. Every hunter/shooter has their own personal preference when it comes down to reticle.
The VX-Freedom has a Rimfire MOA reticle. In the specification chart, you guys saw that the elevation and windage change is in MOA, well that’s because the reticle itself is in MOA. You get 1/4 MOA adjustment per click in the scope.
The reticle has some marks in the vertical bottom and on both sides horizontally. We will provide pictures, for further explanation on how the reticle works you can always visit Leupold’s website.
Turrets
It is quite easy to grab hold of them and operate them. Zeroing the scope isn’t that hard either.
While zooming you don’t feel massive distortion or something of that sort. The turret felt quite well built like the whole body we hope that they should last you well.
Other Features
Now that you ask the other cool features probably aren’t that cool I suppose. They are probably available in most other scopes anyway.
Like, yes the scope is fog and waterproof, and the lenses are scratch-resistant and block up to 80% of glaring thanks to Leupold’s Twilight Light management system.

Well, there wasn’t that much room to complain about the scope. We were quite satisfied with the performance if you buy, we hope you will be too.
