The PS90 aka the baby brother of the FN P90 is a semi-automatic carbine variant of the gun. While the P90 hogs all of the attention and love, the PS90 seems to be sidelined from it. Don’t worry, I’m here to provide it with the treatment it deserves.
The stock gun is more than usable and extremely fun to use as well. But like a lot of other sub-machine guns, this one can use some upgrades, and those upgrades will certainly elevate your shooting experience and prolong the life of the gun.
Well, I’m not gonna waste any more of your time. Let’s find out the best PS90 upgrades you can do right now.
PS90 Short Barrel Upgrades
A lot of first-time PS90 owners do this mod. But you cannot forget your state needs to allow this mod. Otherwise, you won’t be able to use this gun and will face legal troubles. But if your state allows modding the barrel, this way you can get a taste of the P90 without buying the FN P90.
1. CMMG PS90 10.5” Barrel
This barrel is shorter than the stock barrel and it’s much smaller than a standard AR rifle barrel. Keep in mind your state needs to permit you to use this. The barrel itself is made out of 4150 chrome moly.
This material is extremely light and smooth. It doesn’t wear down like a steel barrel and retains the first day’s velocity for a long time. That’s why you see a lot of users upgrading their barrels with old guns.
The Inside of the tube is also coated with the same chrome texture. While it’s not as smooth as ceramic, it doesn’t have any residue or flakes to temper with the bullet. If you are planning on turning your PS90 into a short barrel one, might as well go all out and grab this.
2. CMMG Thread Adaptor
Technically speaking this is not a barrel but rather a barrel attachment. But you will need a permit for this as well. Sounds like a hassle, but it’s something worth doing if your state allows it.
This adapter allows you to add attachments like muzzle devices, muzzle brakes, suppressors, and the like. If you are changing the barrel, then this is a must-have accessory for you. Can’t live without it.
PS90 Trigger Upgrade
I might trigger a lot of PS90 lovers with it, but let’s face it. Not everyone enjoys the same thing as you and I. Some might want a bit more control or less trigger pull on their weapon for faster tapping. But I can’t blame them. If you are someone who is not happy with the stock trigger or wants a better trigger, these are the ones that you should look for.
1. Man Kave PS90 Trigger Pack
Nice choice of name don’t you think? The Trigger kit is made out of 7075 T6 aluminum and it’s also treated with 8625 hard anodization. The anodization is flawless and has no issues visually or internally.
The trigger will reduce the total pull by almost 35%. Not only that, it will also reduce the felt trigger weight by around 15%. Yes, it’s much heavier than any polymer trigger you might come across, but it is also more durable than them and will last you a long time. The pricing, availability, and ease of access make it the best choice for PS90.
PS90 Sight Upgrades
Sure, you might enjoy the iron sight and I’m John Wick. Jokes aside, No matter how much you love your iron sight, your whole perspective will change once you install a sight on the gun.
1. EOTECH EXPS3 Holographic Weapon Sight
When it comes to making top-of-the-class holographic sights, no one comes close to Eotech. They are so good that you will find tons of clones of them. Do stay away from those clones.
The sight itself is made out of aluminum. It has an anodized coating and the entire housing is shockproof. The lens is also fully multi-coated and it has an illuminated reticle. The reticle is tough duty and it will work even if one portion of your lens breaks while on duty.
The reticle size is 1 MOA red dot on the center and a 68 MOA surrounding it. You can control the brightness of the reticle through the side of the optic. For close-quarter shooting, this is the best scope for PS90.
2. Aimpoint Micro T-2 Red Dot Reflex Sight
Let’s say holographic is not your gem and you want to stay in the red dot ecosystem. Aimpoint Micro T2 is one of the best in the market. This tiny optic will sit on top of your gun and show you an illuminated 2 MOA reticle that will work during the night as well.
The optic is made out of high-quality aluminum. The aluminum is lightweight and sturdy. The anodization on the optic is flawless and it doesn’t suffer from any issues at all. The lens is fully multi-coated and it has no visual deformities.
The battery life of this weapon sight is incredible. And if you in future change your sight to something else, you can transfer this sight to your handgun. Yes, this sight is compatible with almost any gun you can think of. As long as it has a rail that is.
PS90 Sling Upgrade
Granted the gun is not that heavy. But carrying it will require some effort and will wear down your muscles as well. To prevent that from happening, you will need to install a sling that will allow you to carry the weapon like a backpack.
1. Magpul MS4 Dual QD GEN 2 Multi-Mission Sling
This is a hybrid sling that offers both comfort and durability at the same time. You can use this sling as a single-point mount or a dual-point mount. Both of them are comfortable and Magpul will allow you to choose your route.
The sling is constructed from nylon. It’s a heavy-duty nylon webbing and will last you a long time. The MS4 is also available in multiple different colors. If you want comfort and durability for a cheap price tag, then you might want to take a look at this.
PS90 Weapon Light Upgrade
While this is not a must for most, it’s still an upgrade that will elevate your experience nonetheless.
1. SureFire M600U 1000 Lumens LED Weapon Light
When it comes to mini-sized weapon lights packing a big punch, SureFire is one of the best in the game. The M600U is a new variant of the M600 with better build quality and durability.
This mini weapon light packs a 1000-lumen LED. As you know LEDs tend to heat up a lot, that’s why they used some aluminum housing and a light reflector in the housing to spread heat as evenly as possible. The light requires 2 CR123A batteries. You can get around 1.25 hours of battery life at full intensity.
If you are planning to buy this flashlight for your weapon and can’t bother to turn it on every time by pressing the button on the light, you can invest in a Switch Assembly and Tape Switches. It will make your life easier.
Should I Upgrade My PS90?
Yes, you should. The upgrades mentioned above are truly upgrades. They will change the total shooting experience and make the gun more relevant in upcoming years. If you are using the PS90 for competition, then these upgrades are kind of mandatory for you. In short, they are worth the penny you are about to spend.
Conclusion
PS90 is a wonderful gun at stock and it’s even more wonderful after upgrading. So, if you are on the fence about upgrading and waiting to pull the trigger, it’s finally time for you to do so. After all, the fun you are about to have with an upgraded PS90 will be much more than a stock PS90.
