First of all, let’s get to know something about Nikon, shall we? Nikon is a famous brand that has provided top-quality cameras and camera lenses for over a century. 

This Japanese-based company has a great reputation worldwide for making one of the best lenses in the camera market. You should have already heard about them by now because their reputation is just that high. 

The material they use in the scope is aircraft-grade aluminum alloy. We have reviewed scopes with the same grade alloy and we were very pleased by the build quality.

Aircraft-grade alloy is probably one of the best materials for scopes. We find plenty with this grade alloy in the 500-600$ mark rifle scope.

Glass

Nikon is known for its lenses. You can’t gain that much fame and fandom in the market without providing some top-of-the-line glass. Nikon does exactly that. They don’t tend to cheap out on glass otherwise their reputation would take severe damage.

The multi-coated glass gives you both a waterproof guarantee and a fog-proof guarantee. It is also glare-free so you won’t see any kind of glaring issue in broad daylight. It is also shock-proof so the glass won’t come out of its designated holes or rotate from recoil.

Reticle

The reticle is an important part of a rifle scope. For some people no matter how good is the scope if the reticle is not of their preference, they would straight up discard it from their short-list.

The Nikon black x1000 not just only comes in 2 different versions the 4-16x and 6-24x it also comes with 2 different kinds of reticles for you to choose from. 

For our instance, we have the illuminated X-MRAD reticle which is MIL-based. There is a total of 17 MIL of adjustments. The reticle is in SF (Second Focal) and glass-etched. That means the reticle won’t zoom alongside the scope zoom.

Because this one is glass-etched it holds pretty accurate whether you hold or dial elevation and wind. Below there will be an image showing the 2 types of reticles the black series provides.

Turrets

Don’t you just love it when things complement each other? Like a Melody? Well, Nikon chose that route for the black series. I am saying that because the turret compliments the reticle. How you may ask let me answer that for you.

The turrets are set on mil and the reticle is mil-based X-MRAD you get what I am trying to imply here. The MOA reticles get MOA adjustments. 

This is great for both the people who like to hold off for elevation and windage or just dial their adjustment for different ranges. Both parties can do that without touching the turrets.

The windage turret is spring-loaded and pretty quick. It has instant zero reset for field correction. Lift the cover set your zero snap back the cover in its position.

Parallax Adjustments

You can adjust the eyepiece with a simple step turning on the ocular lens. But please keep in mind to do that by facing in a white target or towards the sky, when the reticle is visible and sharp that means the ocular lens is correctly focused.

You can find a turret on the left to adjust parallax on the go. The scope is capable of 1000 yards of shooting but you can lower the parallax for as low as 50 yards shooting. Pretty satisfied.

Easy Adjustments

We told you guys in the turret section that these are pretty easy to use and get used to. The zoom ring is also nicely built and doesn’t tend to move on its own from recoil feedback. 

You can use the scope on any caliber without having to worry that your adjustments will get messed up, don’t worry it won’t.

Additional Features

Well, you might ask we almost covered all the main and major points then what is left to talk about? Quite a bit left to talk about actually. 

Like for example the sunshade. Yeah, one 4-inch sunshade is included for the scope. Not only does it eliminate any kind of glaring issue it also provides an extra security method for your scope.

In a moist climate, the sunshade prevents any kind of moist getting inside the scope. Great little feature to have. I think we need to also mention the illuminated reticle. Well, it won’t work as a night vision scope now. But still illuminated reticle is always welcome.

The 30mm main tube can be mounted into any kind of caliber you have or plan to get. Also, the massive 50mm objective lens provides a massive viewable area. The constant eye relief assures that you won’t be losing your eyebrows any time soon.

Just like the other Nikon Scopes, this one is also sealed with an O-ring and nitrogen purged meaning fog won’t bother you.

Differences Between Different Versions

Previously we mentioned this scope in different versions now let’s mention some main differences between the 5 different versions of the scope. Well, I wouldn’t call them all that different because they aren’t actually. Still, let’s see the difference.

If we look into the Nikon Black x1000 family, we can find four models or styles or configurations-
1. Black x1000 4-16x50SF Matte X-MOA
2. Black x1000 4-16x50SF Matte IL X-MOA
3. Black x1000 4-16x50SF Matte IL X-MRAD
4. Black x1000 6-24x50SF Matte IL X-MOA
5. Black x1000 6-24x50SF Matte IL X-MRAD

As you can see by the name only difference is one is 4-16x one the one we reviewed is 6-24x.

• Both of them are made with the same quality.
• 6-24x is slightly bigger than 4-16x.
• Both of them are in SFP (second focal plane).
• Both of them feature MOA and MRAD illuminated reticles.
• Nikon black x1000 6-24x50SF is just a tiny bit heavier than the 4-16x.

There aren’t many differences between the two. It depends on whether are you aiming for a 4x scope or you plan on going for a longer range. Another thing is whether you prefer MOA or MRAD, a lot of people might prefer MOA as they already used MOA.

We don’t hate each other but I have a soft heart for Christmas tree reticles, which this one doesn’t have so a little sad about that. But anyway no matter which one you buy you will be a happy person through and through. We hope that the scope going to serve you for a long time.

The scope is hella good. It’s suited for long-range competition or long-range day-hunting. It also has good camouflage thanks to the sunshade.
