Who doesn’t love a fast crossbow? Finding a fast crossbow for a reasonable price is rare. What If I could provide you guys with a crossbow fast enough to clench your thirst? A crossbow that won’t leave you broke. You don’t have to look further to find that. This is Barnett Ghost 420 review. Let’s find out just how big of a game-changer the Barnett Ghost 420 is.
Barnett Ghost 420: Outlooks
Specifications | Speed: 420 FPS; Kinetic Energy: 149 ft.lbs; Power Stroke: 15.375 Inches; Draw Weight: 185 LBS; Axle To Axle: 20.125 Inches; Length: 37.4 Inches; Weight: 7.6 LBS.
Build Quality
Barnett has a reputation to keep. That’s why they can’t provide a bad quality product even if they want to. When you make a new crossbow and want to keep its price down, you have to make some price cuts. Barnett did that too. But not with the build quality.
Barnett Ghost 420 uses a special material called Carbonlite. It’s a special material made from carbon. The riser and the limbs are made out of carbonite.
This material also makes the crossbow lightweight and compact. It’s easy to carry anywhere. The design aesthetic of this crossbow is also good. I love the monochrome mossy Oak finish. Colors are always a matter of choice. You love it or you don’t.
Power
Crossbows won’t be as powerful as a rifle. But a crossbow can still be powerful enough to kill bears. Although I don’t recommend using crossbows against bears. As you need to be close to
The weight of this crossbow is not light. Ghost 420 weighs 7.6 lbs. That’s a pretty hefty amount of weight for a crossbow. But to back that up Barnett did provide 153 ft-lb of kinetic energy. With that much energy, you can do big-game hunting with ease.
Draw Weight
The draw weight of this crossbow is 185 lbs. The draw weight is not that high when you factor in the draw weight and crossbow weight.
To help you with the draw weight, Barnett provides a free rope cocker inside the package. A rope cocker can cut down the draw weight of a crossbow by half. I know it’s nowhere near the 5 lbs draw weight of an ACUdraw. You can’t forget ACUdraw costs almost 1/3rd of this crossbow.
Speed
As the name already spoiled it, Barnett Ghost 420 can fire a 20″ bolt at 420 FPS. When a bolt fires at 420 FPS with 153 ft-lb kinetic energy, you know no animal is standing on its legs in front of you. You can easily hit targets over 60-80 yards with this crossbow.
If you don’t know, 80 yards is quite a big number in the crossbow community. We usually only keep 50 yards in mind. You need to be close to the prey when you fire the bow
Noise
Noise is a big issue of crossbows. Even though they can’t fire at 1000-2000 FPS, the string of the bow still makes a good amount of noise. From the noise, you will notice additional vibration around the crossbow.
To counter that, Barnett always provides string dampeners with their crossbows. You don’t need to install them yourself, they come factory-installed and factory-lubed. The string doesn’t make much contact with the rail. It prolongs the lifespan of a string too. If a deer can’t hear you shooting, it can’t run away and alert the pack.
As the precision of this crossbow is quite high, you can easily kill a deer with one bolt. As long as you know how to shoot a deer with a crossbow, you will be fine.
Scope
Instead of providing the traditional 4×32 crossbow scope. Barnett went for a 1.5-5x32mm illuminated crossbow scope. A lot of people loved this approach. The extra 1x magnification can play a huge role in intense moments. That extra yard can make all the difference.
As for performance, it outperforms all of its competitors. That’s not an easy thing to do. Especially when you know there are a ton of good crossbow scopes out there.
Pros
- Great build quality.
- Included rope cocker to cut the draw weight.
- High 420 FPS.
- Bright and clear crossbow scope.
- Excellent value for the money.
- Incredible after-sales service from Barnett.
Cons
- Overweight.
- They could have included more accessories, but that’s more of a nitpick than a con.
Summary
Barnett Ghost 420 ghosted the competition that’s for sure. What? That was a smooth setup. Anyway, as I was saying. Barnett Ghost 420 is an excellent crossbow. The pricing of this crossbow hits the sweet spot right.
If you want to upgrade your crossbow or want to get into the scene, Barnett Ghost 420 can be an excellent option. It won’t break your bank and will clench your thirst for speed.
It was short but it was sweet. We can’t deny that. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I tried to not make that many puns like I usually do. If you have any questions regarding the crossbow or any other topic, the comment section is always open for you. Thanks for reading. I hope to see you again.
