Burris Fastfire 3: It’s the third iteration of Fastfire from Burris. They had time to change many things on this sight and make significant upgrades. Burris didn’t shy away from doing those upgrades. Fastfire 3 features a fabulous build quality with durable aluminum.
Anodization is on point. There is no scratches or other defects present on the sight.
Vortex Viper: A short-range sight has to be durable. It doesn’t have much to protect the lens from scratches or other harm. If this is not durable at all, then you will have issues keeping this sight for a long time.
Don’t worry, I am not saying Viper is a fragile sight. In fact, it’s one of the most well-crafted aluminum red dot sights you can buy right now. The price is well justified for the build quality alone. On top of that, it performs fabulously with high accuracy and vision.
Performance
Burris Fastfire 3: The Fastfire series has always been a hot topic in the community. Their performance is super good. They never fail to live up to your expectations. On a 100 yards or so range, this sight is incredibly accurate. The accuracy is scary sometimes. Of course, you can tune the windage and elevation as well. In fact, you should find your ideal windage and elevation by yourself. Tune this sight for yourself for the best performance.
Vortex Viper: I know many people will have doubts about the performance of this sight. I mean, red dot sight usually doesn’t cost this much. Rest assured, the performance of this sight is unmatchable. The amount of adjustments present on this sight is quite astonishing. You can adjust windage, elevation, and brightness to your heart’s content. Match the performance with your gun for the best performance.
Size
Burris Fastfire 3: The total length of Fastfire 3 is around 1.9 inches. Slightly shorter than the 2inches mark. This is the perfect length to use on a pistol or on top of a scope. You can also use this sight as a canted sight if you so wish. The possibilities are endless.
Vortex Viper: This is slightly smaller than Fastfire. The total length of the Viper is 1.8 inches. The length difference is so small, it’s not noticeable at all. I have to admit, it looks fabulous on top of a gun. Sure, you can also use this as a canted sight.
Weight
Burris Fastfire 3: The weight of Fastfire 3 is around 1.5oz. It’s not too heavy for small firearms. You can very well place it on top of a handgun and feel nothing changed. Of course, the look and the performance of the gun will improve. About the weight, it will be quite similar to the previous one.
Vortex Viper: It’s a red dot sight from Vortex that is made for several types of guns. It supports handguns and rifles as well. However, you will be happy to know, it doesn’t weigh the same as a venomous Viper. The weight of Viper is only 1.03oz. That’s way lighter than what Fastfire 3 weighs.
If weight is your main priority, then Viper is the one to go for. Weight distribution is good on both. So, you won’t miss too much going for either one.
