The Kimber Micro 9 is a hand carry gun that is mostly used for self defense and secondary carry as well. While the weapon is not the best for hunting, it can come in a clutch when you are in a pinch.
Just like many other pistols that are available on the market currently, this one can be upgraded to suit your needs as well. If you are looking for some of the best Kimber Micro 9 upgrades and how to choose them, you have ventured to the right place.
Without further ado, let us begin and set you up with a custom Kimber Micro 9.
Kimber Micro 9 Grip Upgrades
Whenever someone speaks of upgrading their handgun, the first thing that comes to mind is upgrading the grips to make the gun more comfortable to hold. While the stock ones are perfectly usable, but we are talking about upgrading the experience.
1. Crimson Trace LG-409 Lasergrips
As the name suggests, the grip comes with a built in laser that allows you to shoot more accurately. This was a very creative approach to solving two issues with one solution. The grip itself is made out of synthetic material. Giving it a firm and sticky texture without hindering your experience.
On the right side of the grip, you will find a built-in red laser sight that can be activated from the front while gripping the gun. And the laser can run around 4h without any issues. After that, you will need to change the batteries. Still, 4h of battery life is not bad for something that is essentially the part of your grip.
2. Hogue Kimber Micro 9 Ambi Safety Rubber Grip
When it comes to making rubber grips, Hogue is one of the best brands in the industry. They make rubber grips for a ton of other pistols as well. Like those, this one is extremely comfortable and doesn’t release any sticky residue even if your hands tend to sweat a lot.
The grip is quite firm with gloves as well. The texture on both sides of the grip is very firm and it allows you to grip it better at any given angle. Well, the downside of this grip is it doesn’t come with a laser sight. Then again, grips aren’t supposed to. They are supposed to be comfortable and this is one of the most comfortable pairs on the market.
Kimber Micro 9 Magazine Speedloader
Magazine speed loaders are a wonderful thing. They make your life much easier and make reloading feel less like a chore. They are a necessity for range shooters as you don’t want to waste much of your time reloading the old fashioned way.
Jokes aside, let’s find out the best speedloader for Kimber Micro 9.
1. RangeTray Kimber Micro 9 9mm Magazine Speedloader
The first speedloader I want to recommend to you guys is from RangeTray. While the name may not ring a bell, they are quite trusty when it comes to accessories like this. While it may not be a big deal for you, this speedloader comes in various different colors.
The material for this speedloader is a polymer. A hard and somewhat heat resistant material is a perfect choice for a speedloader. Don’t be fooled by the “plastic” material, it’s durable and will last you a good while. As they are quite affordable as well, you can have multiple at your disposal.
2. MakerShot Magazine 9mm Speed Loader
This speedloader from MakerShot is available for different calibers. This one is made for 9MM calibers and is supported by the Micro 9 as well. This one is also made out of polymer.
It’s more durable than 3D printed speedloaders that you might find locally or print one yourself. The reloading speed of this is nice and the durability makes it a good choice. As it’s quite affordable, you can have multiple without breaking the bank.
Kimber Micro 9 Magazine Upgrades
Now that you know about some great magazine speedloaders, it’s time for you to shift your focus elsewhere. While you can easily live with multiple magazines of the same stock value, it’s a good idea to invest in an upgraded magazine with higher capacity.
1. Micro 9, 8 Round Stainless Steel Extended Magazine
Yes, this extended magazine is made by Kimber. This magazine is made out of stainless steel. A known material for being durable and long lasting. The magazine is capable of holding 8 rounds of 9mm shots instead of 7 like the stock one.
The magazine also has a grip extension installed at the bottom of it which is made by Hogue. The extension is made out of rubber and it’s extremely comfortable on your wrist while holding the gun.
Kimber Micro 9 Sight Upgrades
While you won’t take your Micro 9 in a long-range shooting competition, a simple red dot sight can improve your accuracy by a lot.
1. Trijicon RMR Type 2 3.25 MOA Adjustable LED Red Dot Sight
The Type 2 is an improved variant of the original RMR which was a popular choice among handgun enthusiasts. The RMR 2 has a better battery life and is generally more versatile when it comes to weapons.
The optic is made out of high quality aluminum. The chassis is lightweight and extremely durable. This compact sight features a fully multi-coated lens and waterproof structure. To make it fit on the Micro 9, you will need to purchase a Trijicon RMRcc Dovetail Mount Plate for Kimber Micro 9.
2. Kimber Micro 9 Night Sight Set
This set of night sights made by Kimber fits your Micro 9 directly without any plates or modification. You don’t need to take your gun to a gunsmith for the installation. The sight is made out of steel and inside of that steel you will find a green fiber optic.
That tritium fiber optic glows during the night and allows you to focus on your target in the complete dark. It’s a pair of sight. You need to install both front and rear sight to have the perfect alignment.
Kimber Micro 9 Holster Upgrades
Last but not least, something to carry your weapon with. A good holster can and will outlast your utility belt. While most holsters nowadays are made out of imitation leather, some of them are genuine and a lot of them don’t even use leather anymore. That’s why finding the best holster for your pistol is as important as the rest of the upgrades I mentioned thus far.
1. Kimber Ambi Minimalist AIWB Holster
A minimalist holster made by Kimber with support for sights as well. Whether you are using a set of night sight or a rear red dot sight, you can use this holster with your Micro 9.
The holster is made out of Boltaron thermoplastic. It’s a type of polymer that gun manufacturers use to make the shell of their guns. Rest assured, it’s not something that you will replace anytime soon. It’s not a poorly crafted holster from China either. Kimber makes it in their factory and you will get good support from them on this holster as well.
2. Maxx Carry IWB Leather Gun Holster
Bolstaron or Kydex not tickling your fancy? You just love the feeling of natural leather and want to stay in the leather gang? Then this holster from Maxx Carry is the perfect choice for you.
Made out of premium cowhide leather, this holster is available in two different colors. A black finish for all the minimalist lovers and a brown finish to match with your hunting belt. Both of them are made from the same type of leather so you are not getting a poorly made holster based on the color. The finish and texture on this holster is top notch.
How To Choose The Right Upgrade Order For Micro 9?
Now that you know what you need to upgrade on your Kimber, how do you choose the right one for you?
Honestly, you might enjoy all of the mentioned upgrades above. Unlike many other handguns, upgrading a Kimber Micro 9 is not that expensive. The upgrade materials cost quite less for what they are.
Yet, you might want to decide on your upgrade order based on the budget you have in your mind. If your budget allows you to upgrade more stuff at a go, then do that. But if you are not comfortable with upgrading too much stuff at the same time, then take it slow and start with what you need most.
What I mean is, you will need to ask yourself the question. What do I want? Do I want a better sight? More bullets? A faster way to reload? Perhaps a comfortable pair of grips? If you know your priorities, then you can upgrade based on that order.
And that’s about it. Sure, you can change the look of your gun by painting it or maybe add some stickers to make it feel like it’s yours. But those are not something I would call “upgrades”. But we each have our own definition of what an upgrade means. For me, these are the best Kimber Micro 9 upgrades.
They make the gun feel better and improve its performance as well. That’s why they are called upgrades.
With that said, that’s all for now. I hope you now know a bit more about your gun and the right way to improve it. Thanks for reading as usual, I will be back with more soon enough. Till then, take care and have fun.
