Hex Wasp Problems, Things To Be Aware Of!

Hex optics is known for their micro reflex sights. While their sights are good and easily comparable with multiple other brands on the market, they are not any saint with zero flaws. They do have some issues that you will need to keep in mind.

Hex Wasp Problems

Battery Life Issues

A lot of shooters and I really do mean A LOT of shooters have accused Hex kind of lying about the battery life. While the HEX Wasped is advertised as having 65K hours of battery life, which means around 2 years in real life.

But in reality, it died within a month for some. Took 2 months for some and the majority died by 6 months. That’s nowhere near what HEX is claiming. The solution is to call Springfield and ask them if they will honor the warranty or not. Otherwise, changing the battery won’t do anything because the circuit itself is battery hungry.

Not Holding Zero

Despite being a handgun sight, this optic has some issues holding on to zero. Having a perfectly zero sight is necessary for improved accuracy. While it’s not too much, some users did claim their zero wasn’t holding despite putting in several times.

Most of the time it happens due to improper mounting. If your Wasp isn’t mounted accurately on the weapon and there is a gap which is causing misalignment, it will never hold on to zero. And the gap will cause the sight to move more during shooting.

If you are sure there is no gap and everything you did was right, then you might want to seek a warranty. The issue might be something else at that point. But at first, I would highly suggest you check the alignment first.

Lighting Adjustments are Poor

While HEX Wasp does offer a lot of adjustments including the brightness, there has been some claims that the brightness isn’t on par with other sights around the same price. Also, the brightness seems to bleed out a bit and mix up with the environment making it hard to see during the day.

If you are facing this issue, there isn’t much you can do. But make sure to test whether you have astigmatism or not. If astigmatism is causing the issue, then you might want to check this guide here to fix red dot astigmatism.

Lens Shift

Another notable issue of the sight seemed to be lens shift. What it means is, when you raise the weapon at eye level to see the target image, it makes the target distorted and shrinks it as well.

While some may absolutely love this, others might not. If you are anything like me and find it distracting, then you have no other option besides going for something else.

Reticle Is Dim

This issue is mostly related to the QC of the sight. It’s not similar to the brightness issue I mentioned above. But the reticle dimming is an issue that makes the sight unusable during the night.

The red dot brightness is not fixable. If you change your battery and the brightness still feels too low, it’s time to talk with Springfield Armory and get your unit fixed.

Is The Hex Wasp A Good Sight?

Yes, it is. It’s an extremely good sight and has a lot of things going for it. Including the fact that it’s a great sight for Hellcat, it’s also good for a lot of other guns. The brightness issue can be fixed by replacing it and the other mentioned issues are mostly related to defective units as well. While it’s not promised that you will not face any of the issues mentioned above, there is always a chance that it will not bother you much.

The lens of this optic is multi-coated and it’s made out of good material. The overall build quality and the durability of the optic is incredible. And it’s not discontinued yet either. So, Springfield Armory will provide you warranty and fix your optic for a long time to come.

Conclusion

The Wasp is a good fit for Hellcat as it fits the Hellcat directly without any issues. The cut for this is the same as the cut on the handgun. So, if you are in the market to get an optic for that gun and specifically looking at this optic, you will love this.

Despite having some problems, it still offers a lot of value for the price. The optic is great at doing what it does and packs an incredible warranty. A lot of the problems are related to QC. Springfield takes care of those units that were unfortunate enough to be sold to customers while packing issues.

That’s all for now, thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed the read. I will be back with more problems ahem, I mean fixes to problems in near future. Till then take care and have fun.
