Aimpoint T2 VS Comp M4 : A Tough Competition! No?

Aimpoint T2 is a red dot reflex sight that almost every shooter out there has heard of. It’s one of those sights that at some point you just want to try it out to see if it lives up to the expectations or not.

Considering just how much Aimpoint updates its lineup of sights, it’s no wonder people get confused about two similarly priced sight from the same brand. After all, unlike smartphones, we don’t want to change our sights every 6 months or so. With that in mind, I’m out here trying my best to find out the best between Aimpoint T2 VS Comp M4 and show it to you guys.

Hopefully, you will find this useful and take something noteworthy with you. Enough said, let’s start.

Key Differences

While both share a few similarities, they are not the same sight. From looks to performance and specs, they are very different.

  • Comp M4 is brighter and offers more night vision settings than T2.
  • Aimpoint Comp M4 has better-rated battery life than Aimpoint T2.
  • Comp M4 has better water resistance compared to T2.
  • Comp M4 comes with a QRP2 mount, T2 doesn’t.
  • T2 is lighter, a lot lighter.

Which One Should You Go For?

Depending on which one is up your alley more and how much you are willing to pay for that, your decision will change instantly. On paper, Aimpoint Pro looks a lot better deal to most, right? But the T2 still is one of the best Aimpoint Red dot sights. Let’s see the argument from both POVs.

Mounting Style

T2: The t2 comes with your standard flat-top rail mounting system that is compatible with the Picatinny rail mount style as well. It’s also compatible with the weaver style. Depending on what kind of rail you have, you might have to buy additional mounting accessories. But if you have a flat top or picatinny, you are golden as it is.

Comp M4: The M4 comes with a QRP2 mounting system. A revolutionary mounting device made by Aimpoint to complement their existing lineup of sights. QRP2 is a quick detach mechanism made by Aimpoint to make your life simple. With the simple twisting of a knob, you can remove this from the gun rail and save your optic inside a protector box while not using it.

When it comes to mounting simplicity and ease of use, Comp M4 takes the cake. It’s easier to install and it’s much faster to remove or reinstall in a different gun. Something multiple gun owners will appreciate.

Lens Clarity

T2: Aimpoint sights have always been a focus in the community. No pun intended. Their fast focus system paired with fully multi-coated lenses that are brighter than most of the competition, T2 provides an insane value. The lenses here are fully multi-coated. They don’t have any glaring issues and they are 100% waterproof. On top of that, they have chemical purging to prevent internal fogging.

CompM4: The Aimpoint Comp M4 and Comp M4s use the same high-quality glass lenses that we all appreciate and love so much. The lenses are fully multi-coated and they all have anti-glare coatings to them. While they are not immune to scratches, they are quite resilient against scratches.

Lens quality-wise, they are both on par. But T2 takes the cigar in my opinion. It just looks a little bit better which many others will argue otherwise. But I’m here to state my opinion after all.

Size and Weight

T2: The overall size of T2 is more compact. The total length of this is only 3.1 inches. It won’t occupy much of the Picatinny rail of your gun. Just for the compact size and performance, this is the go-to sight for most tactical shooters. The weight of this sight is 130 grams/4.6oz only. It’s extremely light for a sight of this size.

Comp M4: The overall length of M4 is around 5.3 inches. As you can see, it’s much bigger than T2. And the weight reflects on the size as well. It weighs 376 grams. Keep in mind, that includes the QRP2 mounting system as well. Considering that, it’s pretty lightweight for an entire system.

If you want a more compact version, definitely T2 is the one you should opt for.

Reticle and Brightness

T2: This is a red dot reflex sight. So, it doesn’t have any fancy reticle like you find in riflescopes. The red dot here is glass etched. It’s a 2MOA red dot that doesn’t take too much of the lens. As you get unlimited eye relief, you will be able to focus on the target much faster with a 2 MOA red dot. With 1 off position, you will find 8 daylight and 4 nighttime brightness settings on this sight.

CompM4: The M4 tops the T2 when it comes to brightness. While it has the same 2 MOA red dot reticle, it has more daylight and night vision settings. On top of that, it’s compatible with all the night vision devices Aimpoint sells. It has 7 night time and 9 daylight brightness levels.

When it comes to brightness and more vision during nighttime, M4 has an upper hand. If you need more brightness, Comp M4 is the obvious choice.

Magnification and Battery

T2: This is a fixed magnification sight for your gun. You can try Aimpoint’s magnifier with T2, but the default magnification is fixed at 1x. The battery life of this is exceptionally good. Rated at 50k hours, you can use this for a long time with the stock battery. And the replacement batteries are dirt cheap.

Comp M4: Like the T2, this is a fixed magnification rifle sight as well. You can add a night vision device or a magnifier if you want to. But if you want a 3x stock magnified sight, this isn’t it. The battery life of this is amazing. At the lowest magnification, it’s rated for over 80k hours. That’s like 8 years of battery life! That’s insane!

Regarding battery saving, M4 has T2 beat by a long margin. I know battery consumption will depend largely on the user itself. But it’s a feature that you should keep in mind regardless.

Summary

Would you look at that, we are at the end already. If you have read through the entire thing, you are already aware of which one is united for you and your style the most. If you want a lighter sight, T2 is your pick. If you want a quick-release system sight, then Comp M4.

If you want to save a bit of money as well, M4 is the way to go.

That’s all for today, hopefully, you found the winner for you in this Aimpoint T2 VS Comp M4 competition. Till next time, take care.
