Vortex is known for making wonderful scopes all around the budget. They make both hunting and tactical shooting scopes. The Crossfire II was made for hunters. Whether you are a newbie or a veteran, you will have a great time using the Crossfire 2 in your daily tasks.
But the gun scope is not without any flaws. There are some caveats that not a lot of people are talking about. So, I took the liberty to try and find out all of the Vortex Crossfire II Problems and inform you guys about it. Without further ado, let’s start.
Vortex Crossfire 2 Problems
What are the big Crossfire 2 problems that you need to be wary of? Are there too many? Or it’s flawless enough to not care about them? Let’s find out.
The Size
The Crossfire 2 is a big boy scope. The total size of the scope and the weight of the scope as well is not something that you can take lightly. Even if you take the base magnification, you are still stuck with a large optic.
There is no real fix for this problem. If you are buying the Crossfire 2, you know what you are getting into.
Not The Best Choice For Target Shooting
While the scope is great for hunting, it’s not the best for target practice. The lower magnification and the lack of adjustment make it a hard buy for any combat specialist and blinkers.
If you are looking for a target practice scope, you can take a look at the ACOG series from Trijicon. They are great fixed-magnified target shooting scopes made for competitive shooters. I can understand why the ACOG might not be an option for you, it’s quite expensive. But the scope is well worth the money if you are after the tactical shooting.
Mounting Related Issues
Just like most another scope in the same price range, this one doesn’t come with any kind of mounting rings. While Vortex themselves offer really good mounting solutions, some shooters have complained this optic doesn’t play well with other mounting bases.
The solution for this is quite simple. I recommend you go ahead and purchase the Vortex Optics Sport Cantilever Riflescope Mounts. They are rated for hunting and sports-related tasks. The main reason for buying this is, they are the best pair of rings for Crossfire II.
Target Focus Issue
This issue is quite common among red dot sights. But this time, it seems to have made its way to a full-size scope. What I mean is, that if you are someone who prefers to tap fast with an AR, then you will have a hard time adjusting to this optic.
You can try increasing the vertical adjustment a bit to compensate for the drop, but you still cannot make it a perfect scope for fast-tapping action. This is why I usually don’t recommend this scope to anyone who is looking to use it on an AR.
Battery Life
The battery life of this is advertised as 1k hours at the lowest setting and 70 hours at the 6th setup. While the reticle doesn’t have any glare and spread to it, the reticle does consume a lot of battery.
Some users claimed that they are getting less than 20 hours of battery life at the highest intensity. This is not a lot considering you will need to change the battery almost every week.
Should I Buy The Crossfire II?
Depends on what you want to do. If you are a beginner and don’t want to spend a ton of money behind your first scope, then the Crossfire II is one of the best choices for you. The adjustments are simple to understand and it doesn’t have a ton of adjustments to worry about either.
The windage and elevations are quite easy to understand. You can move around them a bit and play around till you find the zero. The bottom line is if you are a hunter or aspiring to be one, then get this scope to start the journey.
Conclusion
The scope is really good actually! It is not a surprise seeing how little amount of complaints it receives. On top of that the warranty of Vortex is just butter on top of a well-cooked Lobster.
If you are still in doubt, I can assure you the problems mentioned here are not that major and chances are you won’t even face most of them in real life.
