Last Updated on

Vortex is well known to provide some of the best outdoor sports equipment.

A spotting scope is one of them. Diamondback is one of the most famous product series from Vortex. The other half of this argument is also from Vortex—the Vortex viper spotting scope series.

What is the difference between Vortex Diamondback & Viper?

We are going to answer just that, but before that, let me give you a short description and what you can expect from both options. As we know already, both of them are from Vortex so, let’s talk about Vortex a little.

VORTEX OPTICS

I am going to be honest with you. I like their name. You have heard of Vortex already if you have searched for rifle scopes, spotting scopes, or binoculars in the budget department.

They are known to provide some of the best visual experience in the budget department. Vortex is known for not cutting out on glass and lens coating.

That’s why if you were wondering what to choose from these two and your main priority is lens clarity and visual performance, you can go for either one of them. Both of the scopes perform excellently.

VORTEX DIAMONDBACK

Vortex diamondback is one of the most known product series from Vortex.

Why did we say series?

Because Diamondback is not only bound to the spotting scope. There are diamondback binoculars and rifle scope. So, you can guess why they are so popular. They are also one of the most sold products of Vortex.

There should be a reason behind that. Of course, there is. The idea is simple. They provide top of the line experience for a mid-range price. You can get a diamondback for less than 300$ and one for 500$.

The choice is vast. All of them share the same housing and Porro prism. The difference is mainly the size, weight, magnification, etc. You also get the option to choose angled or straight eyepiece. The scopes also come with a detachable eyepiece.

VORTEX VIPER

Viper is an old series from them. But still kicking. Viper uses different materials to make the scopes fog-proof one of the critical differences from Diamondback. Where Diamondback uses nitrogen purging to make their scopes fog proof, Viper uses argon.

The appearance is another crucial difference.

But in my opinion, the most significant difference amongst them is their size and objective lens.

The lens size on Viper is enormous, and there is a reason for that. Viper specializes in a wide field of view. Where Diamondback (on the lower end) kind of falls off in the field of view department.

Which one to choose then?

The question is tough, but there is an answer.

The answer may not be straight forward like you were hoping. But we got reasons for that.

First of all, the price.

Diamondback is cheaper than the Viper. If you are someone working with a tight budget, the obvious option here is the Vortex Diamondback.

Let me tell you. It would be best if you didn’t think that Diamondback is a lousy product. Just because they are cheaper, that doesn’t mean they are wrong. Vortex has proven over and over again that they provide good value for money.

CONCLUSION

The choice is tough. I can’t give you a straight answer and say buy this or that.

The final decision will come down to you.

If you have any of the scopes in mind already, then go for it. Honestly, if you are waiting for a dramatic difference between them, you won’t find any unless you consider the extra weight a dramatic difference.

Like we mentioned earlier, the Viper series is known for its bulky appearance.

If you still feel like we left something unspoken, please don’t hesitate to comment on your questions. I urge you to do so.
