ARE TASCO TRAIL CAMERAS ANY GOOD?
They are not bad. But you have to define what you consider useful. I mean, we are talking about a 30$ trail camera here. That’s why you need to keep your expectations at a minimum. You can’t expect this camera to have wireless connectivity.
TASCO 8MP TRAIL CAMERA REVIEWS: FEATURES AND BENEFITS
ALL YOU NEED ARE PHOTOS
You are buying this camera and hoping that it takes pictures. Decent usable pictures. This is not a fancy camera, but it gets the job done.
Now to talk about the picture quality. You can expect to have decent usable pictures.
The flash range is 50 feet and has a wide-angle of 120 degrees. It’s suitable for taking pictures of wildlife, your prey, or even a trespasser.
What is a letdown is the triggering speed. It’s 1 second. I know it’s not slow, but it’s not fast by any means either.
I mean, I pretty much expected the trigger lag to be there. This means that the camera may not be able to react in time when it comes to a fast animal.
But as a regular game/hunting/security camera, this will do just fine.
If you are not trying to publish your photos to a photography contest, trust me, you will be more than fine. Yes, we can critique the pictures and say that color contrast and vividness are out of the place.
But that will make us look like the bad guy. I mean it’s a 30$ camera.
This is where the camera shined. Like most other trail cameras, the Tasco trail camera battery bay has eight slots. You need 8AA batteries to powerup the camera.
You can expect around six months of continuous use. That is a lot for a 30$ scope that should be a highlighted feature.
EASE OF USE
You need to consider the ease of use before you purchase a product. For example, if you buy a random nameless brand trail camera from Aliexpress, it will come with a Chinese manual, and default language will be Chinese.
For someone that doesn’t know even the slightest Chinese, it will be troublesome. We can’t call that easy to use, can we? Lucky for you, this is not a Chinese product. It comes with a manual, a good one that is.
You can also find the manual as pdf on Tasco’s website. The guide is well written (trust me, I read through the whole thing).
Like a regular camera, it has on/off buttons. There is also a setup button.
By using that, you can set day/time, duration, etc. You won’t find any kind of temperature meter on the scope. But frankly saying you don’t need that either unless you are planning to place it in a cold place.
Another essential factor of a trail camera.
If the build quality is not good, it can’t go through the harsh weather. Trail cameras are supposed to be durable. Because a hunter will place it in a wildlife area. Animals will try to scratch it. There may be rain or snow.
You can’t predict the weather. But what you can do is to make sure you get a good camera that has a durable body.
So, does the Tasco 8 MP have a durable body? Short answer, yes.
The housing is not aluminum. But it isn’t precisely cheap plastic either. The quality is good enough to stay invincible for a long time. Unless animals like bear or lion attack it or a trespasser steals it, I don’t see it breaking.
Spypoint link Evo Reviews: Still Works?
The camera has IR illuminators. They help it to see at night. The photo quality at night is not the greatest. But it’s not all blurry either. It’s okay, at best.
The IR camera is a red color one. The one you see on a TV remote. It’s not visible to the naked eye, but some animals may be able to view it. I don’t have any scientific proves to back up those claims. That’s why I will leave it at that.
TASCO 8MP TRAIL CAMERA REVIEWS: CONCLUSION
Before we part ways, let me remind you again that this is a 30$ camera. You probably bought toys that cost more than this.
But this is no toy. It is a capable camera as long as you keep your expectations under check.
