Design
If you guys love the Desert Camo finish on anything, you will end up loving the Matrix Mega 405 tremendously. The color coating suits the crossbow. There weren’t any color flakes coming from the crossbow either. Cheap color finishes tend to fade as time goes on. Thankfully that’s not the case here.
Build Quality
The crossbow is constructed from synthetic material. A lot of enthusiasts and reviewers tend to sleep on synthetic material. In their words, it’s not durable enough. Which is not true at all. The Excalibur Matrix Mega 405 is not a new crossbow. It’s been out there for a few years now. Yet, a lot of users still using this crossbow. That should clarify the confusion about the build quality.
The weight of the naked crossbow is only 6.2 lbs. That’s quite light. If you add in the Twilight DLX scope and the quiver, the weight of the crossbow will increase. Nothing to be afraid of.
Power
It’s not a budget or beginner crossbow. You will pay a premium price for it. Naturally, you expect it to perform like a premium crossbow. Fortunately, it does. The Matrix Mega is capable of generating 127 ft-lbs of kinetic energy. For a recurve crossbow, that’s impressive.
Most of the time recurve crossbows tend to have kinetic energy below 110 ft-lbs. Which is not bad. With the Mega 405, you can do all sorts of hunting and competition shooting. Do whatever your heart desires. The power of the crossbow won’t hold you back.
Speed
As the name suggests, the Excalibur Matrix Mega 405 is capable of reaching up to 405 FPS. Anything that reaches over 400 FPS is excellent. Not a lot of crossbows reach this milestone.
Combined with the 127 ft-lbs of kinetic energy, the Matrix Mega will annihilate any targets you throw at it. Recurve crossbows aren’t known for their range. But this one can give compound crossbows a run for their money.
Draw Weight
With great power and speed comes great draw weight.
That’s correct, no matter how fast you run, you can’t outrun the draw weight of a recurve crossbow. The draw weight of the Excalibur Matrix Mega 405 is 290 lbs! My god! That’s heavy!
You will find a rope-cocker device inside the packaging. Using that you can cut the draw weight by 50%. Making it much for achievable.
Noise And Vibration
The Excalibur Matrix series comes with R.E.D.S sound dampeners. It’s a technology invented by Excalibur to use in their crossbows. This technology is used in the limbs of the crossbow to suppress the noise and remove the vibration.
Both of which it does tremendously. You won’t ever complain about the noise of Matrix Mega 405.
