Full disclosure, I am not getting paid to promote any of the products below. I tested/used them and I will simply give you my opinion on why they are the best value for the money. Like I said earlier, you can easily get the most expensive crossbow and be done with that. That’s not possible for all of us.

That’s why, keep reading and find the best crossbow for you. ENJOY!

Best Crossbow For The Money

1. Ravin R20 Hunting Crossbow Package

Speed 400 FPS
Kinetic Energy 164
Axle-to-Axle 5.75 Inch
Helicoid Technology Yes
Overall Weight 6.5 Pounds

Ravin R20 was awarded the best crossbow of the year 2019 editor’s choice. Alongside that, the crossbow won many more prestigious awards. Ravin R20 changed the sub $2000 crossbow scene. Ravin offered so much value for the money it was insane.

Like the top-end Ravin crossbow, this one also features the HeliCoil technology. It’s an advanced technology that helps to stabilize the crossbow and make the shots more accurate.

The zero friction rail also helps to increase the longevity of the crossbow string. You can get more than 700 shots done with a single string.

This crossbow is silent and deadly, perfect for hunting, big game, and competition shooting.

The draw weight is only 6.5 pounds. When you compare it with crossbows that have over 200 pounds of drawing weight, this one looks like child play. It can shoot at up to 430 FPS.

You can say it’s a beginner friend crossbow as the trigger doesn’t have any creep and the bolts are easy to load. The included scope is also an excellent one. You don’t need to change that anytime soon.

The total value this crossbow provides is just insane. If you can afford the price of this package, go for it. You don’t have to read further, this is the best crossbow for the money you can buy. If you can’t afford this one then keep reading. We got more of them coming.

2. Excalibur Micro Suppressor Crossbow Package

Speed 355 FPS
Power Stroke 10. 2 Inches
Draw Weight 280 lbs
Overall Length 31 Inches
Overall Weight 7.9 lbs

It’s one of the best crossbow for hunting in this price range. The crossbow is capable of hitting the 355 FPS mark. That’s a lot of speed for a crossbow of this size.

If you have seen other reviews of this crossbow you must have seen that black bear who was hunt at 30 yards range. You can guess how powerful this crossbow is from that picture.

But with that much of power comes the humongous draw weight. The draw weight of this crossbow is hefty 280 lbs. When you compare it with the 6.5 lbs of Ravin R20, this sounds super bad.

Trust me it is, it’s a lot of force. But with the rope cocking mechanism you can do it without much hesitation. That’s why you need to make sure your shot doesn’t miss the target.

This crossbow is compact, silent, and deadly. Everything you ever need. Only if the draw weight was a little less. It’s one of the quietest & best crossbow on the market. That’s why it is super good for hunters. The prey won’t hear you shooting. It’s a great crossbow for the price.

3. TenPoint Titan SS Crossbow Package

Speed 340 FPS
Kinetic Energy 95
Axle-to-Axle 18.5 - 21.5 Inches
Draw Weight 175 LBS
Bow Weight 6.7 LBS

TenPoint Titan SS is another good crossbow. It’s made by TenPoint the same brand that has the priciest crossbow on the market. Luckily you don’t have to spend 3grand for this crossbow. This crossbow is just a little under $1000 mark. This is the best crossbow for the money if you ask me.

The crossbow is capable of shooting at up to 340 FPS. A lot of non-branded crossbows claim that they can shoot up to a certain FPS but in reality, that’s nothing but a false claim. Thankfully this is not the case here. I would be surprised if that was true in this case.

This crossbow is capable of averaging above 335 FPS with ease. You need to use the correct grain bolts. It’s lightweight and the axle-to-axle width is also narrow. Making it easier to carry and maneuver.

But what I can’t forgive them for is the lack of enough accessories. You need to pay extra to add the ACUdraw cocking device and a hard case. There aren’t any included arrows/bolts either. But thankfully TenPoint did keep the scope. A 3x scope is included. It performs as it is supposed to. Not good not terrible.

If you have a couple of hundreds to spend on accessories then this can be a great crossbow for you. You won’t get the sweet lifetime (around 27 years) warranty from a non-branded crossbow.

4. Barnett Whitetail Pro STR Crossbow Package

Speed 400 FPS
Kinetic Energy 140
Axle-to-Axle 17.625 Inches
Power Stroke 16.375 Inches
Overall Weight 6.9 LBS

This is the Barnett Whitetail Pro STR, not the Hunter STR. Don’t get them mixed up. Both of them are good for the price but the Whitetail Pro STR provides more value for the money.

First of all, it offers more max speed compared to the sibling. Whitetail Pro STR is capable of shooting at up to 400 FPS. This is great for both hunting and target shooting.

The drawing weight is as expected quite high around 187 lbs. My only complaint about most of the crossbows here is the draw weight. I understand it’s expensive to add an ACUdraw out of the box to help with it, but come on man. 187 lbs that’s not a low number.

Ranting aside, this crossbow is quite silent. The friction between the string and the bow is almost non-existent. This is a good thing the string will last longer.

The included 4×32 scope is excellent. I didn’t expect this to perform that well. But I am glad that it did. Side-mounted quiver positioning is optimal. It’s easier to take out the arrow and cock it.

The trigger has almost no creep to it. The trigger is also frictionless. That’s why the trigger string will last longer than any other strings in this price range.

5. Wicked Ridge Ranger X2 Crossbow Package

Speed 330 FPS
Kinetic Energy 85
Axle-to-Axle 16 Inches
Draw Weight 150 LBS
Overall Weight 5.9 LBS

Wicked Ridge is currently owned by TenPoint. But they still release the crossbows under Wicked Ridge banner. Wicked Ridge Ranger X2 is a medium-range crossbow made by Wicked Ridge.

This crossbow was mainly aimed towards the youngsters and the newbie that are trying to get into the crossbow scene. That’s why this is priced so aggressively to cut off the competitors.

This crossbow has a built-in cocking device. You don’t have to hassle with the rope anymore. This is exactly why it’s beginner-friendly. If you ask your friend who never tried crossbow before to cock a 200lbs draw weight crossbow, they will never try crossbow in their life ever again.

The crossbow is not super-fast, but it can hit at 330 FPS. It’s plenty for your target practice and mid-range hunting.

The included multi-lined scope is a 3x one. Fixed magnification but the scope is good enough for 50 yards. Thanks to the ACU52 cocking device, this crossbow is quite famous among the youngsters.

If you want to gift your teenager a birthday gift, you know what to choose. I can confidently say this is one of the best crossbows for the money. The value is just insane.

6. PSE Thrive 400 Crossbow Package

Speed 400 FPS
Kinetic Energy 142
Axle-to-Axle 18 1/4 Inches
Power Stroke 17 Inches
Draw Weight 175 LBS

PSE is known for making some nice crossbows. The Thrive 400 is no different. It’s a budget crossbow that can easily hit the 400 FPS mark.

I don’t hate the trend of using the max FPS as the name. It gives more clarity about the crossbow. To utilize this high-speed PSE includes four 22″ carbon bolts w/ points & 1 discharge bolt inside the box.

Before we judge the crossbow harshly, keep in mind that this is a $400 crossbow. The included accessories are good. Most people’s main concern while buying a budget crossbow is, whether the scope any good or not.

The included scope is clear and vivid. The scope is a 4x scope with a 32mm objective lens. The scope gathers plenty of light to give you a good performance. For the price, the scope can easily outperform around $80 scopes. It’s a good value if you ask me.

The draw weight of this crossbow is rather on the high side. 175 lbs with rope cocking mechanism. Unfortunately, you don’t get any built-in cocking device. You don’t get any add on ACUdraw devices either.

The overall performance of this crossbow is good and satisfactory. If you cast aside the drawing weight, the crossbow provides excellent value for a beginner.

7. CenterPoint Sniper 370 Crossbow Package

Speed 370 FPS
Power Stroke 13.5 Inches
Axle-to-Axle 18 Inches
Black Stock Yes
Draw Weight 185 LBS

CenterPoint Sniper is a medium-range crossbow that is capable of firing at up to 370 FPS. This crossbow also features adjustable tactical stock and forearm. It’s lightweight and compact. The rail is made out of CNC machine aluminum. It’s sturdy and really well built.

The crossbow is silent and deadly. When you are hunting in the wild, no animal will hear you firing this crossbow. It has a built-in string suppressor. The suppressor works just great. The noise is barely audible. Unless the prey is noise sensitive, they won’t even notice before it’s too late.

The quad limb system is made out of CNC machined aluminum. The cams are balanced and provide excellent stabilization.

Like the rest of the budget crossbows, this one also has 185 lbs draw weight. I feel like I have ranted enough about this. Honestly, I can make a separate post about why the manufacturers should do their best to reduce the draw weight on budget crossbows. The draw weight scares way their potential new customers.

Enough ranting, the camo stock blends in well with the whole build. It’s a good crossbow and definitely it’s a best crossbow for the money & you can use it on hunting or any target shooting competitions.

8. Barnett Whitetail Hunter STR Crossbow

Speed 375 FPS
Kinetic Energy 118.6
Axle-to-Axle 18.125 Inches
TriggerTech Yes
Overall Weight 6.6 Pounds

This is the one that I was talking about in the Barnett Whitetail Pro STR. It’s the smaller brother of Whitetail Pro STR. The main difference between the two is speed.

While the Pro STR can shoot at up to 400 FPS, Hunter STR can shoot at up to 370 FPS. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying 370 FPS is bad. Heck, it’s more than any of the similar budget crossbows has to offer. Anything above 350 is more than enough in my opinion. It’s enough for archery and enough for hunting.

The crossbow is made out of fiberglass material. Thanks to that, it’s super lightweight. The trigger has anti-dry fire protection. The trigger creep felt a little strong in my opinion. It was enough to fire at a pinch but usually, the creep feels strong.

4x32mm Multi-Reticle Scope is an excellent scope. Can’t believe Barnett provides such a good performing scope with their budget crossbows. The performance of this crossbow feels nothing less than a $100 crossbow scope.

It has multiple reticle options, even though it’s not illuminated 32mm objective lens gathers enough light to make the reticle completely visible under heavy-light. The drawing weight of this crossbow is around 187 lbs. Considering the price, you just have to live with it.

If you are looking for the best crossbow for the money, then this can be an excellent choice. It’s priced under $300 and packs a good amount of features alongside some nice accessories.

9. CenterPoint Volt 300 Compound Crossbow

Speed 300 FPS
Kinetic Energy 84
Axle-to-Axle 14 Inches
Power Stroke 10.5 Inches
Overall Weight 7.9 LBS

CenterPoint Volt 300 is an excellent crossbow under $200. There is a lot of features going for the crossbow. As the name suggests it can hit arrows at 300 FPS. After seeing all the crossbows on the list, you may be wondering why is this so low?

Let me tell you, the claim of 300 FPS is not a false claim. The bolts can easily achieve that speed. Unlike a lot of non-branded crossbow makers that falsely advertise their crossbow can fire at 350 FPS, 300 FPS branded crossbow is more than fine.

300 FPS is enough to kill deer, I will be a hypocrite if I said I don’t want more speed than that. I do prefer at least 330 FPS crossbow. You can’t forget the price you are paying for this crossbow.

Thankfully the draw weight is also less compared to other budget crossbows. It’s only 130 lbs. Maybe because the crossbow is not that powerful. With a rope cocking mechanism, anyone can cock the crossbow.

The recoil of this crossbow is low. It’s obvious CenterPoint wanted to attract the youngsters. They successfully did so. It’s a great crossbow for the price.

10. Viking FX1-45 Recurve Crossbow Package

Speed 240 FPS
Color Camo
Dimensions (L x W x H) 30' x 26.5" x 8'
Draw Weight 155 Pounds
Overall Weight 5.50 LBS

Viking FX1-45 Recurve crossbow is the cheapest crossbow in our list. But is it the best crossbow for the money? Let’s find out.

This crossbow is capable of firing at 240 FPs. Before you say anything, just look at the price. The rope cocking device is included. This crossbow is not too big, it can be a great learner crossbow.

It’s not dangerously fast. But it can still hurt someone badly. Don’t let your younglings use it without your supervision.

The draw weight is 175lbs. On the higher end. But the rope cocking aid is added inside the box. This will reduce weight by almost half.

Viking went ahead and added a 4×32 multi reticle scope attached to the crossbow. Honestly, the scope is not bad at all. I have seen far worse. You just need to calibrate the scope for your suitable range and you are good to go.

There isn’t much left to say about this crossbow. It’s a good value for the price. But if you can afford better, you will get better.
